"Constant
Current" LED Drivers Provide High Output Current
Aimtec Inc. introduced the first two of its new line of step-down
DC-DC LED drivers. Available in compact DIP24 and DIP14 packages,
the
AMLD-IZ and AMLDL-Z
series meets the rigorous demands for environment friendly LED
lighting solutions. The new drivers offer a
wide input range of 5 -36VDC and 7-30VDC. They also provide output
current accuracy of up to ±2% - thus ensuring the constant color
and brightness that is required by today's most demanding LED
applications. The DIP24 package (31.80 × 20.30 × 10.20 mm)
produces up to 22.5 watts of power. A DIP24 package (20.32 x 10.16
x 6.88 mm) or compact DIP14 is also available. Each one includes a
remote ON/OFF control function, as well as PWM and analog voltage
dimming control (0 - 100%). Boasting efficiencies as high as 96%,
Aimtec's LED drivers are designed to be as reliable as the LEDs
they drive, allowing them to be used at an operating temperature
of -40oC to +85oC at full load.
ULTRAVIOLET
LEDS For Medical and Industrial Applications
OPTEK's
OUE8A Series of Ultraviolet LEDs in the UV-A range are intended
to be used in Medical and Industrial applications. The series is
packaged in a hermetic metal can package and offers a uniform
optical light pattern and enhanced temperature range. OPTEK's
OUE8A Series has a long operating life and eliminates
environmental concerns associated with the disposal issues
associated with traditional mercury UV lamps. The UV-A LED
allows the designer the ability to target specific applications
with narrow wavelength emission while also eliminating any
mercury hazard. These devices provide excellent optical
intensity providing a uniform optical light pattern to the
target while also minimizing stay UV-A light
that could be a safety
concern.

Optek
Releases OPB733TR Surface Mount Reflective Sensor
OPTEK Technology's OPB733TR series of reflective sensors is
designed to meet a growing demand for small footprint, surface
mount, reflective object sensors. The OPB733TR features a long
detection distance (.4" to 1"), higher resolution than previous
non-focused reflective sensors and a package that reduces ambient
light sensitivity. The OPB733TR is suited for a
wide variety of applications in the office equipment, medical,
industrial, consumer and gaming industries. Examples of
applications include edge detection, mark detection, door sensor,
industrial automation and proximity sensing to name a few.
Originally designed to accept
26AWG to 28AWG stranded or solid wires, the 9176 and 9177 series
have been added to now include 18AWG to 24AWG and 14AWG to 20AWG
respectively. This expansion opens up the market now across a
broader range of applications. The
value of this connector is achieved from the total applied cost of
the wire connection. This is achieved from the simplicity of the
connector and wire termination process. For starters, the 2
position and 3 position connectors are tape and reel packaged for
high volume SMT placement onto the PCB. The individual wires are
then located over the top of the contact and are simply and
reliably pressed into the slot via hand or arbor type press-in
tools. This process allows the contact tines to pierce the
insulation jacket which creates a gas tight connection, while
using plastic insulator features to securely grab the insulation
providing a strong strain relief on the final assembly. There is
no wire stripping or preparation needed prior to termination.
Contact material is phosphor bronze, with three re-terminations
achievable for each individual contact. These connectors are
unlike anything currently available on the market, as they have a
smaller footprint, are end-to-end stackable and assembling the
wires to the connector is very easy. AVX discrete wire IDC
connectors are manufactured with high temperature nylon material
to withstand RoHS reflow processes and high working temperatures.
The IDC connectors are based on automotive level temperature and
vibration specifications, resulting in products that are robust
and suitable for a wide variety of harsh operating conditions.
With such a broad wire
range accommodated within the product series, a wide variety of
applications within the Industrial, Medical, Automotive and
Transportation markets. The LED lighting market is a perfect fit
for this type of connector, for use in LED lighting strips for
sports arena signs, display cases, lighted cabinets, advertising
signs, and architectural lights used for building feature
enhancement or internal feature lighting.
TDK's
Double-Layer "Supercapacitor" Offers Lowest ESR In The Industry
(February 2009):
TDK's new electric double-layer "Supercapacitor" offers the
lowest ESR in the industry for this size Mount. The new
capacitor, which will be available in a 20x20 mm size, will be
featured at the TDK booth at APEC this week in Washington D.C.
The EDLC employs a double layer of charged particles formed
on activated carbon coated electrodes in an electrolyte. As a
result, high capacitance is achieved due to the large electrode
surface area and thin charge-bearing layer.
TDK's EDLC Supercapacitors leverage TDK's core technologies in
high-quality film coating and process control, in combination
with extensive mass production capabilities for high-density
energy storage devices. By careful optimization of design,
materials selection and production method, TDK is able to
deliver best-in-class performance, in a high-quality monolithic
Supercapacitor package.
TDK's new EDLC Supercapacitor is targeted at portable device
applications such as High Power LED Flash. In this application,
the characteristics of the Supercapacitor enable the use of the
latest high current LEDs to produce camera flash illumination of
similar performance to existing Xenon flash solutions, but
without the need for high voltage components and complex
charging circuits. Other
applications include Pulsed Energy Storage, Power Loss Assist
and Battery Assist.

Gap
Pad and Gap Filler (Thermally Conductive) Interface Materials From
Bergquist
Gap
Pad and Gap Filler are cost-effective, filled, thermally
conductive interface materials. With shock dampening abilities,
the Gap Pad line is recommended for applications that require a
minimum amount of pressure between components. It's "gel-like"
modulus makes it well suited in areas where conformity may be a
priority.
Gap Pad and Gap Filler are also available in a silicone-free
form. These thermally conductive polymers are designed to have
similar mechanical benefits as silicone materials. They are ideal
for sensitive applications that do not allow silicone, such as
underwater pools and automotive lighting applications.
Thermally Conductive Bond-Ply Adhesives From Bergquist
